81st AK-SAR-BEN 4-H LIVESTOCK EXPOSITION
SEPTEMBER 23-28, 2008

The 81st Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Youth Livestock Exposition has been scheduled for September 23-28 at the Qwest Center. A complete schedule of events will be posted soon.

More than 2,000 4-H families from an eight-state area participate in the Expo. Categories of this 4-H only competition are Dairy, Feeder Calf & Breeding Beef, Horse, Market Beef, Market Broilers, Meat Goats, Market Lamb, Market Swine and Breeding Swine.

To be eligible to exhibit at the Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Exposition the 4-H member must be at least 10 years of age by January 1, AND must meet the requirement for exhibition as set by 4-H office for state and interstate shows in state of 4-H membership. 4-H members having completed their membership eligibility in a state are ineligible to enter the Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Livestock Expo as a member of another state. Horse exhibitors must be 12 years of age by January 1 of the current year.

Feeder Calf Show New Rules

All Feeder Calves must be nominated by DNA hair sample by June 15th to be eligible for the 2008 Exposition.  Materials may be obtained by contacting your local county Extension Office.  The cost to nominate by DNA is $5 per head.

Feeder Calf Champions will be receiving prize awards in 2008. 

Nominations Forms for CO, MO, WY, SD

Any Exhibitors from Colorado, Missouri, Wyoming or South Dakota that want to exhibit Breeding Beef, Breeding Gilts, Dairy Cattle or Broilers must have nominations forms completed in order to be eligible to enter the Exposition.

All Nomination Forms are due to your Local County Extension Office on or before June 15th unless your Office sets and earlier deadline.

2008 Market Beef Identification Rules

All market beef must have a hair sample (DNA) and beginning weight on file to be eligible for the 2008 Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Livestock Exposition. DNA collection materials will be available in county offices by December 15. All materials must be obtained through your local county extension office. Nose prints will not be needed!

The cost to exhibitors in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota and Wyoming will be $5 per head. Nebraska kids will pay $6 per head and have the sample eligible for both the Nebraska State Fair and Ak-Sar-Ben. Iowa kids will pay This fee covers the expense of materials and handling. All DNA samples for Market Beef are due to the Ak-Sar-Ben office by April 1, 2008 unless an earlier deadline has been set by your local county extension office.

Iowa: January 15, 2008

Minnesota: February 15, 2008

Entry Information

Entry materials will be distributed from Ak-Sar-Ben to the county extension offices in mid-July. All entries must be conducted via computer disk through county extension offices. Entries received from individuals will be sent back.
