Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship Program

The Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship Program is a partnership with Horatio Alger, Ak-Sar-Ben and TeamMates. It is funded by the proceeds raised through the Ak-Sar-Ben Coronation and Scholarship Ball.

The Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship is a $6,000 award payable over four years and is managed in partnership with the Horatio Alger Association. The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished American's Inc. awarded nearly $7 million in college scholarships in 2011, making it the largest non-profit provider of need-based scholarships in the nation. A statistical profile on our 2012 Ak-Sar-Ben Scholars indicate that their average GPA is 33.63 and for a household of four the average income is $16,549. More than 76% of them receive federal aid and 6% of them live on their own without any parental assistance.

However, the fact that Ak-Sar-Ben is most proud of is that our retension rate of the scholars through their college career is higher than 88% compared to a national average graduation rate of 55.9%. Perhaps, this is in part, because 79% of them selected colleges in Nebraska to attend.
